What to See
It’s impossible to come to Lynchburg and not see the James River. Not only is it the reason Lynchburg was founded, it’s an ideal spot for relaxation and sightseeing. Spend an afternoon with James River Adventures, exploring the river by canoe, kayak, SUP or tube. It’s a guaranteed unrivaled view of the city.
For another incredible perspective on Lynchburg, walk up the sloping steps of Monument Terrace and enjoy a free visit inside the Lynchburg Museum. Not only is the view walking up the steps breathtaking (and we’re not just talking about the workout), the Lynchburg Museum is full of incredible information about Lynchburg’s history.
Float down the James River in a kayak or canoe rental from James River Adventures.
Where to Eat
If you’re anything like us, you plan your vacation around the food, right? One of the best things about Lynchburg is that your next favorite meal is literally just a block (or less!) away.
Coffee and Breakfast
Being a city with a handful of colleges and universities means we have a lot of incredible coffee shops to choose from. Because you can’t possibly just choose one restaurant to start your day with, we recommend a breakfast-crawl of sorts. Starting with coffee:

Where to Stay
If boutique hotels with historical stories are your vibe, Lynchburg is a must-visit. Our downtown hotels have storied pasts and their walls help tell those narratives.
To stay downtown, within walking distance of some must-see attractions, you’ll want to check out The Virginian or Craddock Terry, for historical buildings that have been renovated for modern comfort.
Lynchburg is also home to international brands like Hilton, Comfort Inn, Holiday Inn and Marriott, if those quality hotels are more your taste.
