LIFE @ Lynchburg:
This program is for individuals 50 and older who are interested in lifelong learning. This program hosted by the University of Lynchburg features weekly presentations on a variety of engaging topics, taught by current and retired faculty and staff members or area educators and presenters. The University offers ten classes every semester.
Lynchburg Museum Guided Walking Tours:
Tour and learn some LYH history at Point of Honor, Cosby Woods, and the Quaker Meeting House all lead by Lynchburg Museum Experience Leaders. Each season, the walking tours are updated to new locations and topics.
Percival’s Island Trail Walk:
This trail is flat, shaded, and offers plenty of parking close by. While biking or walking this trail, you’ll catch beautiful glimpses overlooking the James River. Percival’s Island is conveniently located Downtown where ample local food spots and shops are lining the streets.
Stop and Smell the Roses at Old City Cemetery:
Old City Cemetery has one of the oldest and largest collections of heirloom rose bushes which are clustered along an old brick wall in the center of the historic cemetery. Old City Cemetery is gorgeous year-round, but the peak of the rose bloom season is May. In the fall, the cemetery hosts their annual Candlelight Tours.
First Fridays Downtown:
Pop into an art gallery, listen to some live music, or see some history at the Lynchburg Museum.
Lynchburg Parks and Recreation Offers many classes and activities aimed at seniors:
Lynchburg Parks and Recreation hosts many classes and activities including dance classes, art classes, nature programs, and fitness/athletics. Some of the activities that are specifically 50+ are Tap 50 +, Music & Memories with the Lynchburg Symphony (Free), Cycling Without Age: Percival’s Island (Free), Fairview Fitness, and classes like Cracked Vessel Taiji and Group Chair Exercise at the Templeton Center. Recreation Shuffle is a social program for seniors held at Lynchburg’s neighborhood centers.
The YMCA:
The YMCA of Central Virginia has three locations in LYH and also holds community classes for all ages.
One Way Out Escape Rooms:
Promotes themselves for groups of all ages and is also a great activity for grandparents to do with their grandchildren.
