By Brandy Centolanza
Whether you want to spend some quality time with your significant other on Valentine’s Day or any other day throughout the year, Lynchburg is an ideal spot for a romantic getaway. Spend a night or two in the city and rediscover why you fell in love. Here are a few suggestions of places to stay and things to do during your visit.
Craddock Terry Hotel
Craddock Terry Hotel, which once operated as The Craddock Terry Shoe Company, is located downtown in the heart of Lynchburg. The hotel offers a Romantic Getaway package for couples that includes a one night stay in deluxe or premium accommodations; a bottle of champagne with two keepsake champagne glasses; rose petal turndown service; a gift certificate to one of the hotel’s award-winning restaurants; and two complimentary continental breakfasts delivered to your room in a repurposed, old-fashioned wooden shoebox. The hotel also has two other packages, one for outdoor adventurers and another for those who wish to explore a night on the town in Lynchburg. Extra amenities for guests include a welcome bouquet or a dozen red roses; shoe cake pops or truffles; and one dozen chocolate-covered strawberries. Following a stroll on the Bluff Walk, you and your loved one can complete your romantic evening with room service or dine at Shoemakers American Grille at the hotel. The restaurant offers fine cuisine in an upscale industrial setting, incorporating fresh ingredients from local vendors in daily features.

Add-ons include flowers, champagne, chocolate strawberries, a fruit tray, and a cheese and cracker plate. Meanwhile, The Salon and Spa at Acorn Hill Lodge offers a variety of services including couples massage packages. Plan a visit with your partner to Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest plantation or take in the scenery during a hike or bike ride along Percival’s Island Natural Area then head back to the Acorn Hill Lodge for some relaxation at the spa. End your romantic stay with breakfast the next morning at the lodge’s The Bistro restaurant before you head on your way.
